# TagSentry

Consent and event monitoring for websites, especially ones that run on Google Tag Manager. One line of code, pasted first in the site's `<head>`, above the Tag Manager snippet.

## Consent

- A cookie banner with the right rules for where each visitor is: EU/EEA, UK, Germany (strictest), Switzerland, Brazil, Türkiye, China, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam and Quebec ask first (37 countries plus Quebec); California and 11 more US states (CO, CT, TX, MT, NH, NJ, MN, OR, DE, NE, MD) are opt-out and honour the Global Privacy Control signal; the rest of the US and the rest of Canada are opt-out; a known country with no consent law (e.g. Australia, Japan, Mexico) gets the opt-out "Your Privacy Choices" link; a visitor whose location is unknown gets the strictest rules (Germany's). This describes what the product does, not legal advice.
- With Consent on, sets Google Consent Mode v2 defaults before any tag runs. If our CDN can't be reached, the tag sets Google's six consent signals to denied. A monitoring-only site gets no consent defaults from TagSentry.
- Banners by place: a Global banner plus preset, editable overrides for each place's law (EU with extras for Germany, France, Italy and Ireland; UK; Switzerland; Quebec; Brazil; California and the GPC states). Owners can change words, language, position and button order per place, never the law. The dashboard previews the banner as a visitor in any country or US state.
- Default "Advanced" mode: Google's tags load and send cookieless, denied signals until consent. Optional "Basic" mode holds Google's tag and Tag Manager until consent.
- Holds trackers our scan finds, in Tag Manager and pasted into the site's theme, until the visitor agrees. Limits: scripts above our line, `document.write`, server-side requests.
- Reject and Accept are the same size and colour on the first screen. Colours that fail contrast can't be published.
- Every answer is a record, kept 24 months, with no IP address or user agent. Search by Consent ID, export, per-visitor proof, data requests.
- EU or US data storage, chosen per site, on every plan. (Storage, not processing: compute runs in the US.)
- Connects to Google Tag Manager by OAuth, sorts every tag by purpose, proposes changes; nothing changes in Tag Manager until the owner approves; each change is a new container version whose notes name the one it replaced.

## Event monitoring

- Shows every event and the tags it fired, live, with the payload's shape (types, never values), and the hosts each tag sent to.
- Events: Firing, Broken, Recovered, Quiet (and Stopped when the whole site stops). Flow: event to tag to destination. Inspect: payload shape and "Copy for my developer".
- Alerts by email once when something breaks and once when it recovers. Free: an event or tag stops, a new tracker appears. Pro: a key event arrives empty or drops below usual; Slack and webhooks.
- Follows consent: after consent in ask-first regions, by default in opt-out regions until opt-out or GPC.
